Subdued Elation

Sent to the Boston Globe January 20, 2025 Dear Editor: My elation over the release of Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steibrecher is tempered by the realization that there are still 81 hostages being brutalized by Hamas in their terror tunnels, that the 90 terrorists released by Israel will almost certainly murder many more innocent people and the ceasefire will be used by Hamas to rearm, reorganize and prepare to perpetrate many more bloody atrocities. Sincerely, Alan Stein

Christiane Amanpour interview of Husam Zomlot

Letter to CNN Sent to Deborah Rayner deborah.rayner@warnermedia.com •Ryan Kadro at ryan.kadro@warnermedia.com Veronica Molina at veronica.molina@warnermedia.com • Copy Christiane Amanpour at christiane.amanpour@warnermedia.com bcc letters@camera.org Sent to CNN January 28, 2025. Unprofessionally, Ms. Rayner blocked letters criticizing the unprofessional interview given by Christiane Amanpour, so this letter never reached her. Dear Ms. Rayner, Mr. Kadro and Ms. Molina: I watched the softball interview of Husam Zomlot by Christiane Amanpour and was, as is usually the case when Amanpour has anything to do with the genocidal Palestinian Arab war designed to destroy Israel, she acted as a propagandist for the Palestinian Arabs rather than a legitimate journalist. As is usually the case when Palestinian Authority officials are interviewed, Zumlot repeatedly lied but was never called out or even questioned about his numerous lies by Amanpour. Among his lies: He repeatedly referred t...

Lesson for Palestinian Arabs

Sent to the Boston Globe December 29, 2024 Dear Editor: Reading the article "For Palestinians returning north, elation and despair" (Wednesday, January 29, 2025), I can't help but think of an important lesson it contains. When you choose a government made up of barbaric genocidal terrorist thugs and that government turns most of the homes, schools, hospitals, mosques and UNRWA facilities into armories, including tens of thousands of rockets, builds an extensive network of subterranean terror tunnels underneath civilian structures and with entrances into many of them, turns the civilians into human shields, repeatedly launches rockets and other terror attacks against a peaceful, democratic, sovereign neighbor and then launches a barbaric attack, beheading babies and burning them in ovens, gang raping innocent young women before murdering them and then bringing their dead, half-naked bodies back as hostages and parading them before cheering crowds, that sovereign neighbor t...

Kenneth Roth Completely Off Base

Sent to the Boston Globe December 27, 2024 Dear Editor: Kenneth Roth, whose stewardship of the once admirable NGO Human Rights Watch, compelled Robert Bernstein to renounce the organization he founded because of Roth's fanatical demonization of Israel, is totally off base with his op-ed "Harvard's new approach to antisemitism is dangerous." Contrary to Roth's assertion, the IHRA definition of antisemitism has absolutely nothing to do with inhibiting free expression. It merely provides the gold standard for understanding what constitutes antisemitism. It does no more to inhibit free expression than observing that the hateful use of the N-word is racist. Indeed, the fact that a hateful screed like Roth's could be a featured op-ed in a respected newspaper like the Boston Globe proves the falsity of his arguments. Sincerely, Alan Stein

UN Secretary General again demonstrates his moral depravity

Sent to the MetroWest Daily News December 27, 2024. Dear Editor: In the article "Israel strikes Houthi targets in Yemen" (December 27), we read "U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the Israeli airstrikes on Thursday as "especially alarming" after "a year of escalatory actions by the Houthis." Guterres has been quiet for over a year as the Houthis have not only bombarded Israeli cities and towns with missiles and drones and done nothing as they effectively closed the critical Red Sea shipping corridor, but quickly condemns Israel as it does what the United Nations should have been leading the world in doing. This is not surprising, given the way, in the immediate of the barbaric Hamas October 7 slaughter, Guterres effectively blamed Israel by saying it didn't occur in a vacuum. Technically, he was right: the international community enabled Hamas by sending massive amounts of aid to Gaza and then closing its eyes as Hamas took most of ...

One doesn't freeze to death when the temperature is 55 degrees

Sent to the New Haven Register, December 26, 2024 Dear Editor:  The article "Israel, Hamas trade accusations of ceasefire delays" (December 26) starts with the sentence "A baby girl froze to death overnight in Gaza, while Israel and Hamas accused each other of complicating ceasefire efforts that could wind down the 14-month war." The temperature in Gaza that night was 55 degrees. It's rather difficult to die when the temperature is 55 degrees. This is just one blatant examples of the lies put out by Hamas and parroted by the systemically biased Associated Press. Any article originating from Gaza, especially those from the Associated Press, should be accompanied by a reader advisory such as "WARNING: All articles from Gaza should be read with a jaundiced eye, recognizing that any reporter in Gaza who reports anything not to the liking of Hamas terrorists puts his life and the lives of his family in great jeopardy." Sincerely, Alan Stein

Gaza ceasefire must avoid disastrous mistakes of the past

Sent to the New London Day, December 26, 2024 Dear editor;  The Day takes an extremely cynical view of Israel in the editorial "Peace is still possible" (Dec 25). Any sane ceasefire deal must require Hamas immediately release all the hostages – both living and dead. Despite holding them captive for nearly 450 days, Hamas hasn’t even provided a list of those being brutally held, hasn't allowed the International Red Cross to provide medical treatment for any of them and hasn't provided the names of those it has already murdered. The Day is finger pointing at Israel for a peace agreement, but Israel and the United States have been at the table for more than a year working to get the hostages out. Right now, tens of thousands of Israelis are evacuated from border towns. Men and women are separated from their jobs and their families while being forced to defend Israel on the seven fronts its enemies have been attacking. The Israeli economy is feeling the impact of 14 month...

Irresponsible, inaccurate photo caption

Submitted to the Hartford Courant, December 22, 2024 Dear Editor: The caption for the photo "Faces of Hunger" (Hartford Courant, December 21, Page 5) is grossly inaccurate. It blatantly falsely refers to "the unprecedented level of civilian casualties" in the war started by Hamas last October 7 with its barbaric terror attack. The level of civilian casualties actually pales compared to the civilian casualties in other conflicts, such as an estimated 600,000 in the Syrian civil war, with millions of refugees fleeing the country. Or the Sudan civil wars, which resulted in the deaths of a million and a half people, not necessarily including more than 62,000 killed in the current conflict there. The thoroughly researched report "Questionable Counting: Analysing the Death Toll from the Hamas-Run Ministry of Health in Gaza" by Andrew Fox, released by the Henry Jackson Society December 13, demonstrates that, even assuming the accuracy of the total casualties dist...
