There are still some things you can always depend on

Dear Editor:

America and the entire world have been in turmoil, but there are some things you can still depend on. One is that Israel-haters will make horrible accusations against Israel and, when they do, you can be almost certain of two things: The accusations are baseless but would be true if those accusations were made against the Palestinian Arabs.

Thus it is not surprising that, as reported in the article "One year later: Jews and Muslims struggle with the aftermath of Oct. 7," Dr. Khalid Qazi, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council of Western New York, falsely accused Israel of committing genocide.

The tiny democratic state, which has been expediting the transfer of immense amounts of food, medicine and other humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza, even though most of it has been stolen by Hamas, is accused of committing genocide.

The tiny democratic state, which has gone to greater lengths to avoid civilian casualties than even the American army has ever taken and which has kept the ratio of civilian to combatant casualties to approximately 1/9 of the norm recognized by the United Nations Security Council, is accused of committing genocide.

Meanwhile, when five Arab armies invaded Israel in May, 1948, their leaders not only vowed to destroy Israel, but to drive the Jews into the sea. Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser repeated that vow when he kicked the United Nations peacekeeping force out of the Sinai in the leadup to the 1967 war. Today, the goal of genocide is part of the Hamas charter.

Yes, there are some things you can still depend on. Unfortunately, they're not the right ones.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
